Abdul Arrested After Controversial Comments

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, representing New York, criticized a woman who was recently arrested for allegedly making anti-Semitic remarks regarding a public high school attended by Jewish students, asserting that the suspects had never worked for her campaign.

Iman Abdul, a 27-year-old from Brooklyn, was taken into custody on charges relating to making terrorist threats and endangering a child’s well-being, among other accusations. The NYPD reported that Abdul had issued a “terroristic threat through social media” directed at Leon Goldstein High School in Manhattan Beach.

The controversy gained traction after an article by the New York Post revealed that Abdul had been sharing threatening posts from a now-deactivated Instagram account, which included disturbing calls to action against the school’s community.

Allegations surfaced that Abdul had suggested harm against Jews in her posts, and advocacy groups have called for accountability. A screenshot of one of her messages mentioned, vaguely, an attack on schools funded by public money, positioning the school as part of a larger agenda.

Online court records indicate that Abdul was charged with making a terrorist threat and was pleading not guilty. She has maintained a complex stance, stating that while she did not advocate for physical attacks, she did call for vocal opposition to institutions she perceives as Zionist.

In the wake of these events, Ocasio-Cortez’s office firmly denied any ongoing association with Abdul. “This individual is not a campaign staff member, and their comments are horrifying,” the campaign stated. They emphasized the need for a strong response to threats of violence.

Abdul’s lawyer, Geoffrey St. Andrew Stewart, chose not to comment further on the situation, leaving many questions about the implications of this incident unanswered.
