Former CIA Employee Accused of Concealing Significant Wealth
A former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee has been charged with hiding a substantial quantity of valuables in his Virginia residence, which was subsequently searched by federal agents.
David Rush allegedly possessed 303 gold bars valued at around $40 million, alongside $2 million in cash and multiple luxury Rolex watches. Remarkably, he reportedly attributed most, if not all, of these items as “work-related expenses,” as reported by a news outlet.
The CIA discovered discrepancies regarding these assets during a standard audit and proceeded to enlist the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for further investigation.
The FBI stated:
After the CIA’s internal investigation indicated possible legal violations, CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred the findings to the FBI for law enforcement assessment. The FBI is collaborating closely with our partners at the CIA and the Department of Justice to conduct a thorough inquiry into this situation.
Rush faces charges of theft of public funds and is accused of misrepresenting his background to his employer, according to reports. The exact date of his departure from the agency remains uncertain.
In previous interactions with the government, Rush applied for assistance three times. Initially, he claimed to have graduated from Clemson University in 2000. In a later application, he added that he held a graduate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Ultimately, he succeeded in his third attempt in 2009, which included additional qualifications and an aircraft test at the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, as outlined in court documents. He also stated that he had served as a dissertation advisor at the Air Force Institute of Technology and described himself as a Navy pilot.
However, the indictment contends that these claims are false. Currently in federal custody, Rush, who was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 2015, is accused of fabricating details about holding a colonel’s active-duty status while receiving inflated executive compensation and accumulating $77,000 in unearned vacation time.
A source with ties to the White House mentioned that CIA Director John Ratcliffe had become a pivotal figure for President Donald Trump, described as the “silent hammer” executing missions and then fading into the background. This source claimed that Trump should be recognized for turning the CIA into an effective instrument aligned with America First ideals.
Additionally, reports indicate that Trump and Ratcliffe detailed a high-risk rescue operation in Iran, which involved the U.S. military working alongside a CIA-led “deception operation” that successfully located and rescued a wounded airman after his aircraft was downed.
Trump reportedly emphasized the indispensable role that Director Ratcliffe and the CIA played in the mission’s success, highlighting how intelligence was crucial to the operation.
