Ex-Gov. David Paterson speaks out about UES attack by brat-pack mob: ‘Unfortunate encounter’

Former Gov. David Paterson said Sunday that he hopes the little hoodlums who attacked him and his son-in-law on the Upper East Side have learned their lesson after facing charges.

Mr. Patterson, 70, who is legally blind, was also injured in Friday night's Manhattan attack, killing three young men and his 20-year-old step-son, the son of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa. He praised Anthony Sliwa's parents. .

“Governor Paterson and his family are pleased to see the suspect turned himself in,” a representative for the former governor said in a statement.

“The Governor appreciates the efforts of the children's parents to hold them accountable and would like to thank the NYPD for their strong efforts,” the statement added.

On Saturday, the three young attackers turned themselves in, and two were charged. The 12-year-old was charged with second-degree gang assault rap, and the 13-year-old was charged with third-degree gang assault.

A third boy, 14, was not charged as police determined he was not the perpetrator.

Police are searching for two other members of the gang, including the girl who allegedly threw a punch during the assault.

The second wanted suspect, an older boy wearing a New York Yankees cap, is believed to be the only person in the crowd who punched the former governor during the scuffle.

Police said Patterson and her stepson were walking along East 96th Street around 8:30 p.m. Friday when they were approached by young men. Curtis Sliwa said the two were walking their dog.

Anthony had previously reprimanded the group for climbing the fire escape, but the children returned and confronted him.

Patterson took the long hit, but his stepson took the brunt of the blow, and two young men charged Saturday were accused of kicking and punching Patterson, officials said.
