Charles Littlejohn, the former IRS contractor responsible for leaking former President Trump’s tax returns, was sentenced Monday to five years in prison.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Ana Reyes called the leak “an intolerable attack on our constitutional democracy” and condemned Littlejohn’s actions.
“The media says that democracy dies in darkness. Democracy also dies in lawlessness,” the judge said. “There are many legal avenues to bring the situation to light. Mr. Trump was under no obligation to reveal his election results. People could vote for someone else or vote against Mr. Trump. You can also run as a candidate.”
