Ex-Jet Braylon Edwards Called Hero for Stopping Attack on Elderly Man at YMCA

Former Jets player Braylon Edwards is being hailed as a hero for intervening and ending an assault on an elderly man in the locker room of a Michigan YMCA on Friday.

Edwards was in the locker room at a YMCA in the Detroit suburb of Farmington Hills when the 25-year-old man started the fight. hit 80 year old man new york post report.

The former NFL player said the cause of the altercation was the music being too loud.

“When I get off work and go into the locker room, I can basically hear people about four rows behind me arguing about the music and how loud it was being played,” Edwards said. Said WDIV-TV.

“The noise escalates and you hear pushing and shoving and you can tell what a fight sounds like. You start to hear some fighting, you start to hear some fist sounds, but once… “I heard a thud and that’s when I stood up and turned around,” Edwards continued.

“Then I saw the man, who I thought was reaching for the phone underneath the victim, grab the victim by the hair on the back of his head and try to slam him against the counter,” he said.

Edwards quickly intervened and stopped the attack. And officers told him he may have saved the old man’s life, he says.

“I didn’t know it was that serious,” Edwards said. “So the victim probably had a severe concussion essentially, but I didn’t know that until I talked to Detective Jacobs in Farmington, who told me that if he did that, he would. ”Even if you don’t intervene, that’s what you do after all. ”

The suspect quickly left the premises, but police tracked him down and later arrested him. The victim was transported to a local hospital. “People go to work out, have a good time, live to be 80 years old, and they don’t expect that something might take their life,” Edwards exclaimed. “My mother, my grandmother, my father, those are the things I think about the moment I get home.”

Edwards had 238 catches for 1,570 yards and 11 touchdowns in 31 games during his three seasons with the Jets. He was the first pick of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, where he played for five seasons. He also played for the 49ers and Seahawks. He retired from the league in 2012.
