The sight of bright-eyed, well-fed young people turning lush university campuses into slums is just the latest spectacle from a generation in what seems to be perpetual protest.
What is wrong with America?
Not all of the agitators care about that question — riots always attract people who just want to watch things burn — but the sincerity of many of the protesters should not be underestimated, no matter how misguided their phrasing may be.
Perhaps it would be helpful to rephrase the question to, “What is great about America?”
As frustrating as it may be to defend the self-evident, we must remember that patriotism is a virtue that must be taught, and if the current generation is as cynical and ungrateful as it appears, then part of the blame must lie with its elders.
And these elders are in a position to help the young people see the light.

Nathan Nipper’s New Novel “American Legacy” is typical of Gen Z resentment: Tom Bullock, a 25-year-old democratic socialist and unemployed graduate student saddled with debt, came of age in a culture where the essential evil of his country was taken for granted.
But then Tom gets the chance to inherit a multimillion-dollar fortune from a conservative grandfather he’s never met. Problem is, he’ll have to embark on a cross-country road trip to change his cynical view of America.
