Los Angeles is one of the most beautiful places in America, but it's now reduced to rubble from the wildfires that have ravaged much of California.
Blaze Media national correspondent Julio Rosas has been on the ground covering the aftermath of Altadena, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood and Enicino, and what he saw was nothing short of terrifying.
“What shocked me the most was actually seeing firsthand how much dead leaves, branches, and underbrush still covered the unburnt hillsides,” Rosas said. He told Blaze News' Jill Savage and Matthew Peterson.
Rosas said the state's inadequate response to forest management is one of the reasons these wildfires caused so much damage, saying, “If we had competent leadership that took forest management seriously, this It believes it is a “sharp reminder” of how the devastation could have been alleviated.
But forest mismanagement is only part of the equation.
“It’s just one of the components,” Rosas explains. “And the other thing is water management and human resource management. And this kind of thing is really how the leadership at the state and local level is mismanaging and sidelining things that are important for progressive policy.” We actually showed you what we have in place.”
Rosas also spoke with people affected by the fire.
“I ran into this couple when I was in Altadena, which is part of the Eaton Fire, just north of Pasadena,” Rosas said. “They were very distraught but told me how quickly everything had happened.”
The couple saw flames coming from the ravine at 7:30 a.m. on the day their home was destroyed. They were evacuated within an hour, but by late that afternoon, the entire block was completely gone.
“It's their 1980s convertible. I forget the exact model, but it was left behind and completely gone. And he just broke up and started crying, because he just said, 'You know, my wife really loved this car, and now it's gone,' Rosas says.
“So there's obviously a lot of sadness,” he added.
