Last September, Stephen J. Lawson, 73, a former lead preacher at Trinity Bible Church in Dallas, Texas, and former president of the Onepassion Department, was removed from both posts when it was revealed that he had an “inappropriate relationship” with a woman who was not his wife.
After the news broke, Lawson dropped the public radar and became radio silent.
However, on March 12, 2025, he finally broke his silence.

“I think a lot of people are very frustrated by the silence that Stephen Lawson has extended,” she says.
“He says he didn't say anything because he wanted to make sure his repentance was authentic. But I understand that he's basically ghostly made by your spiritual mentor… he's far more hurt than if he were given at least some clarity, some transparency, and “Hey, I'm going to take a step back from all public communication,” explains Ally.
However, when Trinity Bible and OnePassion Ministries issued their first statement about Lawson, it was not clear whether Lawson repented. The statement made him appear to have been caught, but he had not yet pleaded guilty and turned away.
Now we know it is true, it may explain his months of silence.
On March 12th, Lawson broke his silence in the next X post.
Ally believes Lawson's repentance is sincere, but is confused as to why he (or his PR team) felt the need to share “all of these weekly religious activities.”
Lawson says he is taking part in prayer meetings, communion, counseling and other activities, Ally said: [those things] It deals with real changes in the heart and true humility. I don't doubt integrity there, but are these answers to the questions people have? ”
She says the bigger concern is what really happened.
“To list me all the repentance-centric activities that happen every week, I think it's defensive, and I'm not sure that people need to hear in this moment,” she says.
