Families of Long Island Gilgo Beach victims ‘delighted’ by arrest in serial killer case: ‘Finally’

Relatives of the victims of the infamous Long Island Gilgo Beach murders are “delighted” that police have arrested a suspect in a series of unsolved murders, according to a lawyer representing the two families.

Police said Thursday evening that Long Island resident Rex Rex, a Long Island resident, was identified in connection with a 2010 incident in which authorities found 11 bodies in a search for missing escort Shanann Gilbert along Beach Highway in a suburb of Babylon, New York. Heuermann was arrested.

Gilbert and Jessica Taylor’s family attorney, John Ray, appeared on America’s Newsroom on Friday to discuss the development of the case.

He told hosts Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino, “We know that DNA is the key to every investigation, and that DNA has been studied many times in FBI laboratories.” rice field. “So that’s very likely the root of it all.”

“I’m happy that something is finally happening,” he said.

Ray suspected the arrest was related to the “Gilgo Four”, the four victims whose bodies were first found in the case.

“They may be able to connect this man with other victims, but not yet,” he explained.

At 10 p.m. Thursday, police arrived at Houermann’s home in Massapequa Park, a 25-minute drive from Gilgo Beach, where the body was found.

Ray said he had worked on the case for 12 years and had gathered a “tremendous amount” of evidence, much of it leading to Massapequa.

“We have provided the information to the police,” he explained. “And I hope some of that content is helpful.”

He said the case could date back to the 1980s, citing examples of various women from Long Island with similar backgrounds who were found in similar surroundings.

But the associations he found may not be concrete evidence, he said.

“There are so many coincidences in this case, an amazing number of coincidences,” said Ray. “More to say, there’s a lot of relevant evidence here.”

“We’ve been living with this case buried alive with the victim for years, so I’m glad the police are finally taking action.”

Gilbert’s official cause of death remains “unknown,” even though a private autopsy suggested strangulation. Her body was found in December 2011, over a year after her disappearance.

Taylor’s remains were found in Manorville Woods in 2003. In March 2011, additional remains were found along Ocean Parkway during a search for Gilbert.
