Family from California Hurt in Violent Fight at Maui Resort Alleged to Target Whites

Assault on California Family in Maui: Authorities Investigate

A family from California recently faced a shocking racially charged attack while vacationing at a resort in Maui. One member reported that the leader of a local group threatened them prior to the incident, using a term commonly directed at white individuals in Hawaii.

In a report by Hawaiian News Now, the family’s ordeal escalated when one attacker struck a member with a chair, resulting in serious head injuries. This individual required emergency medical assistance and treatment at a local hospital, where medical professionals used 13 staples to close the wound.

The confrontation occurred on Friday night at the Ka’anapali Alii Resort. According to Maui Police, around 30 people were involved in the altercation, which originated in the resort’s barbecue area and led to injuries for at least six individuals. Police subsequently arrested a 20-year-old man from Maui on suspicion of assault.

Family member Joseph Headfield recounted the events, revealing that one woman from the group declared her intentions to harm their sons, specifically referencing “haole boys.” The verbal aggression from the group was what sparked the initial confrontation.

As tensions flared, another family separated their children from the situation. Before the physical assault, members of the local youth had reportedly been tormenting the visiting family. Witnesses noted the violence of the attack, where family members endured slaps, punches, and kicks, while the most severe injury was inflicted when a chair was used against one man, resulting in a bloody head injury.

The family strongly believes that this attack was racially motivated, urging authorities to classify it as a hate crime due to the prior threats. Danielle, another family member, expressed their disbelief, remarking on the wide age range of their group, from 85 down to 11 years old. “We just never expected something like this while at a private resort; it was completely overwhelming,” she shared.

When police responded around 10 p.m., they found about 15 individuals near the resort’s pool. Seven members of the family provided details of the attack, mentioning that the assailants left the scene before law enforcement arrived.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
