A California father expressed his frustration after a family trip to Central Florida theme parks was significantly impacted when his three-year-old daughter discovered a sex toy in their condo. He claims the resort did not take the situation seriously.
Mike Gross and his family had planned a four-day getaway at the Holiday Inn Club Vacations’ Orange Lake Resort in Kissimmee. “It looked great, had good reviews — that’s why it was so shocking,” he shared.
On the second night of their stay, his daughter approached him with a “present” she had found in a drawer. It turned out to be a six-inch vibrator.
Gross recalled being horrified but tried to remain calm as he washed his daughter’s hands — and then his own. After putting his kids to bed, he and his wife Angela immediately searched the condo for any other adult items.
Gross called the front desk, where he was assured someone would get back to him right away. Yet, no one followed up. Feeling frustrated, he attempted to reach management again, but the next day, he still hadn’t heard from anyone and began to doubt their sincerity.
“At first, we were trying to laugh it off, but their total lack of concern really upset me,” he said.
The following day at Disney World was not at all what Gross had envisioned. “I couldn’t enjoy myself,” he lamented, highlighting the resort’s negligence toward what he described as a potential biohazard.
Eventually, he went to the lobby, placed the vibrator on the desk, and demanded answers. “I was so mad I was shaking,” he recalled. “Everyone was staring. You could have heard a pin drop.”
After that, he spoke with a manager, but found the response to be lacking.
Three weeks later, the resort offered him $1,300, but only if he agreed not to post reviews, discuss the incident, or reach out to any government agencies. “No way I was taking that deal,” he stated.
Instead, he took his daughter to see a doctor for testing. “Mistakes happen,” he said, “but if you ignore the situation and the potential danger, you’ll end up with a very upset dad.”
“Holiday Inn will never get my business again,” he concluded.
A spokesperson for Holiday Inn Club Vacations responded, stating: “We are aware of this unfortunate situation and regret that it fell short of the experience our guests should expect. We take this matter seriously and have addressed it with the appropriate resort teams. As this involves a specific guest matter, we are unable to comment further on private discussions.”
