Fani Willis calls Jim Jordan a ‘clown’

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Monday went after House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for prosecuting former President Trump’s Georgia election interference case. continues to investigate the lawmaker on suspicion of misconduct.

“Jim Jordan has attacked my office time and time again, without any legitimate purpose,” Willis said in a statement. interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “Anyone who knows Jim Jordan’s history knows that his sole purpose is to interfere with criminal investigations.”

Earlier this year, Jordan threatened to hold Willis in contempt of Congress if she did not cooperate with an investigation into the use of federal funds. Although the congressman ultimately cooperated with the investigation, he on Monday denounced the investigation as “illegal” and called the Ohio Republican’s actions “abhorrent.”

“He has now turned to his strategy of considering a grant program that I have recommended, and although we have responded to his subpoena, he continues to attack to obstruct the criminal investigation. ” she said. “While his jurisdiction has one of the worst crime rates, it also has problems with poverty.”

Willis, who is seeking re-election in Tuesday’s Georgia Democratic primary, also denounced a similar state-level investigation against her.

“The reason I’m bringing this up at the federal level is because the state level has decided to follow this clown’s lead and try to intervene in the investigation,” she said. “And it’s not even legal.”

“And it’s going to fail, and it’s going to go nowhere. But they’re trying to attack me on every level,” she added.

The criminal case against Trump in Georgia has been derailed by an inquiry into Willis’ conduct, particularly her romantic relationship with a former case prosecutor. Nathan Wade stepped down from the case in March after Judge Scott McAfee ruled that one of them had to recuse himself.

A trial date for the case is still unknown, but Willis had targeted an August 2024 start, which now appears unlikely.
