Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis was mocked on social media Thursday after making what many critics deemed embarrassing testimony.
Willis took the stand during an evidentiary hearing regarding her relationship with Nathan Wade, the lead prosecutor she hired to help bring the election fraud case against former President Trump. Defense attorney Ashley Merchant and her client, Michael Roman, Trump’s co-defendant in the case, said in a court filing last month that Willis was arrested because of his personal relationship with Wade. They argued that Mr. Willis should be disbarred from the suit because he obtained a financial benefit from employing Mr. Wade.
Her testimony on Thursday took on a markedly hostile tone, with Willis calling some of the allegations “disingenuous” and “extremely offensive.” At one point, Ms. Willis held up a printed version of her indictment against her in her hands and yelled at her judge, “This is a lie!”
The situation became so heated that at one point the judge issued a warning to Willis.
