Fans from four nations attending the World Cup will encounter travel restrictions due to Trump's ban in 2026.

Travel Bans May Impact World Cup Fans

With the World Cup matches just a few months away in the United States, some fans might find themselves unable to attend due to existing travel bans. President Trump has enacted full or partial travel restrictions on over 30 countries, including four whose teams will compete. However, players and team staff have been granted exemptions.

Fans coming from Iran, Haiti, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal could struggle to enter the U.S. to support their teams. The event will take place from June 11 to July 19, co-hosted by Canada and Mexico.

Djibril Gueye, a fan from Senegal, expressed disappointment over the potential bans, stating that if the U.S. restricts visitors, Senegal should reconsider its participation in the World Cup. He emphasized that it’s crucial for the U.S. to make arrangements so that all qualified teams can cheer from the stands.

Sheikh Sy, another fan, mentioned his determination to attend the tournament despite the challenges. He fondly recalled attending the last World Cup in Qatar and noted the importance of supporting Senegal, who has qualified again.

Fatou Diediou, leading a Senegalese women’s fan group, shared her thoughts on the situation, indicating she is hopeful but uncertain if the travel restrictions will change before the event.

Meanwhile, FIFA has highlighted the immense interest in the tournament; the last World Cup attracted over 3.4 million attendees. Some players and coaches are also expressing concern about performing without fan support. Coach Emers Faye called it “shameful” to deny supporters access but remained optimistic that solutions could be found.

Haiti is set to play against Scotland on June 13, and Iran will face New Zealand on June 15. The Ivory Coast team has a match against Ecuador on June 14.

In a previous announcement, Trump introduced a “FIFA Pass” visa system intended to streamline the process for genuine soccer fans to travel for the World Cup. This move aims to ensure that fans who secure tickets can easily obtain visas to attend the matches.

To facilitate this, additional consular staff have been sent to embassies globally to manage the influx of visa applications related to the World Cup.
