A father and his 14-year-old son were indicted by a grand jury on Thursday on murder charges in connection with the shooting that killed four people at a Georgia high school in September.
A Georgia grand jury indicted Colt Gray, 14, on 55 counts of murder and 25 counts of aggravated assault for the deaths of two students and two teachers at Winder High School in Apalachee, Georgia. According to To the Associated Press. His father, Colin Gray, faces 29 charges, including two counts of manslaughter and two counts of second-degree murder.
They are scheduled to be arraigned on November 21, according to the Associated Press. Colt Gray is in juvenile detention and his father, Collin Gray, is in the Barrow County Jail.
In addition to the four who died, nine people were injured in the shooting. Colt Gray is accused of carrying out the deadliest school shooting in Peach State history. His father, Colin Gray, is accused of having his son use an AR-15-style weapon.
“Every person, every child at that school was a victim,” District Attorney Brad Smith told reporters Thursday, according to the Associated Press. “The children in other schools that were locked down during this period were all victims. Parents who were worried about where their children were.”
Days after the shooting, the FBI revealed that Colt Gray had been interviewed last year after receiving a tip about previous alleged threats he made online. The agency said there was no reason for the arrest.
Thursday's indictment of Collin Gray was another example of law enforcement attempting to hold parents responsible for school shootings. Jennifer and James Crumbley, parents of Michigan school shooter Ethan Crumbley, have been indicted and found guilty of criminal charges in the Oxford High School shooting that left four students dead. They were the first parents to receive this.
