A man, Nicholas Stanley, has recently opened up in a striking prison interview regarding the murder he committed. The 35-year-old from Indiana confessed to killing Allen Cogswell, a man previously convicted of abusing one of Stanley’s relatives. Remarkably, Stanley, as he spoke to ABC57 News, expressed no remorse for his actions, instead claiming he was justified in his actions after Cogswell’s release from prison.
“I’m tired of pretending to do something wrong,” Stanley stated, maintaining that his actions were righteous, echoing a sentiment he believes many share. He insists he feels he has protected his family, holding firm to his conviction.
The crime took place at the Daylight Inn in Indiana on June 24, when Stanley approached Cogswell’s hotel room and opened fire as the victim reacted to his presence. Reports indicate Cogswell sustained fatal injuries to both the head and chest.
During the video interview, reporter Annie Kate reminded Stanley that their conversation was being recorded and would be made public. Despite this, Stanley openly admitted to the murder, saying, “I took him out.” He recounted being fixated on Cogswell for years, stating that upon Cogswell’s release, he felt an overwhelming sense of loss, even losing his job over this obsession.
On the night of the incident, unable to sleep, Stanley armed himself and sought out Cogswell, describing the moment he found him as a necessity rather than a choice. He spoke about his feelings with an unsettling calmness, lacking any visible emotion.
Facing a potential minimum sentence of 45 years in prison, Stanley acknowledged the weight of his actions. Yet, he expressed frustration with the legal system, highlighting his belief that Cogswell had evaded consequences for his past offenses against Stanley’s family.
In a candid moment towards the end of the interview, Stanley reflected on the impact of his actions on his family. He expressed awareness that he would miss significant moments in his children’s lives, urging them to live fully and not worry about him.
“I love you guys; please raise your head and live your best life,” he said, concluding with a sentiment that seemed both resigned and poignant.
