On Saturday, a father and son visiting San Antonio to support their Knicks claimed they were attacked by two Spurs fans just outside their hotel.
The 29-year-old victim reported that he and his 62-year-old father were jumped by two individuals in Spurs apparel near the Hotel Valencia Riverwalk around 12:30 a.m.
Both were wearing Knicks jerseys as they returned from the title-clinching Game 5 when they allegedly became targets.
According to San Antonio police, the father was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, though the extent of his injuries was not revealed.
An anonymous Knicks fan posted about a similar incident on the Knicks subreddit, but it’s unclear if it’s related to the same father-son pair.
On Reddit, someone asked the Knicks community to “pray for my father,” who suffered serious injuries, including a “small brain bleed” and facial lacerations needing stitches. Fortunately, he has since been released from the hospital.
This whole situation is just tragic. A day that should have been filled with joy turned into a nightmare, the Reddit user lamented.
While many fans celebrated the Knicks’ historic run to the Finals in New York, there were some confrontations with Spurs supporters.
A particularly aggressive Spurs fan garnered attention when he tried to pick fights with Knicks fans inside Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station, chasing several before being removed by authorities.
Disturbingly, the prior Wednesday, 17-year-old Johnny Ormuller was left in a coma after being attacked by a man shouting “Spurs in 7” during a brawl livestreamed in midtown.
The San Antonio Police Department has stated they are investigating various viral videos associated with assaults on Knicks fans throughout the city.
