Father loses custody of autistic son following battle over gender transition, receives backing from Elon Musk

Father Loses Custody Over Concerns About Son’s Gender Transition

An Icelandic father has expressed deep distress after losing his parental rights, a situation he claims arose when he opposed his 11-year-old autistic son’s transition to a different gender. This case has garnered attention worldwide, including comments from billionaire Elon Musk, who criticized the court for apparently valuing progressive views over parental rights.

Alexandre Rocha, originally from France and residing in Iceland for 25 years, was awarded custody to his son’s mother in December. He suspects that the judge’s decision was influenced by his inquiries into the long-term impacts of puberty blockers and hormone treatments.

“Medical intervention in this context should be illegal,” Rocha remarked. “It’s essentially abuse when you’re altering children’s bodies — take my child, for example. This shouldn’t happen; this ideology doesn’t belong in children’s lives.”

He pointed out that his son’s perspective seemed to be influenced by games like Minecraft and Roblox but argued that the child didn’t fully grasp the enduring consequences of switching genders.

“Every child dealing with separation or a diagnosis of autism faces its own set of challenges,” Rocha explained. “They want validation and attention, but I’m worried about the future. Even if they start on blockers and hormones, will they be content in a few years? Have they really dealt with their emotional struggles?”

Since his son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder only eight months ago, Rocha believes the court, alongside medical experts, overlooked key elements of the diagnosis during proceedings.

He noted that children on the autism spectrum frequently want to “feel right” or experiment with different identities; for instance, his son has occasionally expressed a desire to be a cat with a tail or ears.

However, when he raised these points in court, Rocha claims that an endocrinologist dismissed his concerns outright, asserting no issues with the hormones and ignoring any potential mental health factors.

Currently excluded from medical decisions regarding his son, Rocha worries about the treatments being administered without his knowledge.

“It’s quite possible he’s receiving hormone treatments, yet we’re left in the dark,” he said.

Rocha also mentioned that the child’s mother has become increasingly assertive in promoting ideologies surrounding gender, even resorting to AI tools to comprehend terms like “dead name,” which refers to a child’s name before their gender transition.

“I can’t endorse that kind of language. To me, it’s appalling. Talking about death in reference to children is something I just can’t wrap my head around,” he stated.

In February, Rocha learned that the child’s mother had legally changed their son’s name to reflect a female identity, ensuring that his identification would indicate he is a boy.

He believes the court’s ruling is less about his child’s best interests and more about suppressing parental dissent.

“This is about controlling parents. It’s about silencing me and amplifying this ideology,” he said.

The story has attracted considerable attention, even catching Musk’s eye, who has been vocal about transgender topics, especially following his own son’s transition.

Musk expressed that his son was misled into agreeing to take puberty blockers without fully understanding the ramifications.

In response to Rocha’s situation, a popular account on social media remarked on the implications of these issues reaching Iceland.

Rocha said he was both surprised and honored that Musk acknowledged his story.

“We have our common battles as parents; at the end of the day, we all share that concern, regardless of where we come from,” he added.

Musk has yet to provide a public response regarding this matter.

Beyond the political and legal struggles, Rocha expressed a deep longing for daily moments with his son, whom he hasn’t seen since January.

“I miss our story times at night and our cooking sessions; there’s just something special about those moments,” he reminisced, particularly enjoying movies from the 90s.

Recently, Rocha filed a complaint against the child’s mother for obstructing his court-ordered visitation rights.

The mother contended that she wasn’t intentionally preventing visits; rather, she claimed the child refused to see Rocha because he wouldn’t use the new name or recognize him as transgender.

Rocha presented a witness affidavit indicating that the last visit had gone well, with the child appearing happy and secure during their time together.

He recalled a moment when his son mentioned missing their family members, underscoring the emotional toll of the situation.

“As a parent, it’s incredibly distressing not knowing what’s happening on the other side,” Rocha lamented. “It’s leading to a slow estrangement, which is truly heartbreaking.”

Despite an environment of fear, Rocha encouraged fellow parents to trust their instincts, voice their concerns, and seek expert advice.

“I’m here for my child’s future, and that’s my primary focus. I’ll advocate for him, always,” he affirmed.

The child’s mother did not respond to requests for her perspective on this complex situation.
