A 14-year-old boy accused of massacring a gunman at a small Georgia high school had been “having problems” at his previous middle school, the suspect's father previously told investigators.

Collin Gray and his son, Colt Gray, are both charged in the boy's fatal assault Wednesday at Apalachee High School.

According to an incident report obtained by Fox News Digital, investigators were called to the Gray family's home in Jefferson, Georgia in May 2023 to respond to a report that Gray, who was 13 at the time, had made a threat on the social media app Discord to shoot up a local public middle school.

In an interview with investigators, Collin Gray said her son “had some issues” at his previous school, West Jackson Middle School, but that he was “much better” after transferring.

Collin Gray, 54, told investigators that he had recently divorced his ex-wife and that the separation had separated Colt and his two younger siblings: Colt Gray lived with his father, while the two younger siblings lived with their mother.

The boy denied making any gun threats on Discord, telling investigators in 2023 that he “never made any comments about committing a school shooting or heard anyone talk about it.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Discord for comment.

Investigators noted that the boy, who was 13 at the time, appeared “quiet, calm and unassuming” during interviews.

Collin Gray told investigators he had a hunting rifle at home but his teenage son did not have “unfettered access” to the firearm.

A gun was displayed on video taken inside Apalachee High School, and an evacuation order was issued.

“Colt is permitted for supervised use but is not freely accessible,” the report states.

More than a year later, the boy was charged with carrying out the shooting at Apalachee High School that killed two students and two teachers: Mason Schermerhorn, 14; Christian Angulo, 14; Richard Aspinwall, 39; and Christina Irimy, 53.

Authorities said the suspect opened fire at Apalachee High School Wednesday morning, killing four people and wounding nine others, before turning himself in during an exchange of fire with a school resource officer inside the school.

Gray is expected to be charged as an adult following the heartbreaking high school shooting that has rocked this small community. He was transported to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville, Georgia. Gray is scheduled to appear before a judge online at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
