Father of Oregon School Attacker Shares Intense Moments Before Taking Action

Father Stops School Shooter

In a recent interview with CNN, Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old father, recounted the moments leading up to his decisive action at Silver Rail Elementary School on October 15, 2026. Just before he intervened, he described a chilling scene of chaos.

According to Breitbart News, the police were quick to clarify that it was a “bystander” who shot the attacker, bringing the violent situation to a halt. The next day, the “bystander” was revealed to be Giamanco, who has two daughters enrolled at the school.

The New York Post mentioned that Giamanco works as a carpenter and has a concealed carry permit.

In his interview with CNN, Giamanco shared that he could hear children pleading for their lives amidst the turmoil, followed by a series of gunshots. This prompted him to think, “I have to go in. People are going to die.”

He recounted crawling through a window that had been shattered, where he found himself on the ground. He indicated the special needs classroom was to his left and mentioned reloading his weapon to ensure he was prepared for what lay ahead.

Giamanco then described how he cautiously peered through a window in the classroom door, looking for a chance to intervene:

“…I peeked through the window. And at this point I found my opportunity. I saw a teacher on the left grappling with the gunman on the right who was armed with a rifle. I realized they were both engaged and that the gunman was unaware of my presence. So, I swung the door open, stepped inside, and fired.”

After the ordeal, Giamanco called his mother to inform her that he had killed the attacker.

CBS News quoted his mother recalling the moment she heard from her son: “A man went into my daughters’ school and shot kids, and I looked at him point-blank, and I shot and killed him, Mom.”
