Tragic Sledding Accident Claims Father of Three

A father of three, Christopher O’Quinn, 36, lost his life in a tragic accident during a sledding outing in Abbeville, South Carolina, on Saturday. He was enjoying the day with his wife, Jordan, and a family friend when disaster struck. They were sledding behind a UTV on private land, gliding over snow remnants from Winter Storm Fern that had passed the week prior.

While having fun, O’Quinn’s sled collided with another UTV, as confirmed by Abbeville County Coroner Brad Evans. O’Quinn’s friend was also on the sled during the collision. Both were rushed to the hospital, but O’Quinn succumbed to blunt force trauma to the head.

The current condition of the couple’s friend remains uncertain.

O’Quinn is survived by his wife and three children, who he loved “with all his heart,” Jordan expressed through tears. She described him as an active father who dedicated time to each of their children every night, telling them how proud he was. “He loved big, he loved hard,” she said, emphasizing his deep care for those around him. “He was one in a million.”

Jordan shared that they are leaning on their faith to navigate life without O’Quinn, noting that they have been together since high school. “There’s just an incomprehensible peace there,” she remarked, adding that she believes he is in a better place, praising the Lord. “That’s what keeps us going,” she stated.

In a poignant social media post, Jordan included a photo of O’Quinn from a friend’s wedding, capturing a light-hearted moment. “Now that he’s dancing on the golden streets, I know he’s waiting patiently for my arrival,” she wrote, bidding farewell in a touching manner.

The accident is just one of many sledding incidents reported around the country following Winter Storm Fern, affecting areas in the South and Midwest, where snow isn’t a common occurrence.

In Kansas, a dramatic rescue was needed for a 15-year-old who jumped into a large drainpipe on a golf course. Meanwhile, in Texas, two teenage girls tragically lost their lives when their sled, hitched to a Jeep, struck a curb and collided with a tree. An Oklahoma mother was also killed in a sledding accident when she was accidentally struck by a friend’s vehicle.
