Father Dies After Flood Incident in San Bernardino

A man who tragically lost his life after being swept away by floodwaters in San Bernardino has been identified as Edward Jozwiak, a 55-year-old father.

Authorities reported that his body was discovered about a mile away from where rescuers initially found him clinging to the roof of his truck, which had been engulfed by heavy floodwaters near the intersection of Keenebrook Road and Cajon Boulevard on Tuesday night.

Just after his body was located Wednesday morning, Jozwiak’s daughter took to social media to express her grief.

“It’s so sad; he was found this morning and will no longer be with us on this earth, but he will be with his grandpa in heaven,” Vanatha Jozwiak wrote on Facebook. She also shared a link to a GoFundMe page aimed at raising funds for his funeral.

She mentioned that her father “got stuck in a stream that is usually very calm” while trying to return home but, due to the recent weather conditions, it turned into a powerful current.

According to officials, the area where Jozwiak was swept away is characterized by a natural stream bed, which can be prone to flooding.

During the storm, Jozwiak was sitting on the roof of his truck in the DeVore neighborhood as heavy rains hit Southern California.

Rescue teams arrived just before 11:30 p.m., but by that time, he had already been taken away by the swift waters.

Authorities stated that two other adults at the scene managed to free themselves before paramedics arrived.

Jozwiak’s Facebook profile indicates he was originally from Muscoy, California, and was employed by a plumbing and heating company based in Canada.
