A father in Kansas, who was a registered sex offender, shot and killed his wife and four children before calling 911 to confess and subsequently taking his own life, marking a tragic incident of murder-suicide.
Ronald Williams, aged 53, fatally shot his wife, Kelly George, 44, along with their children: nine-year-old Carol, seven-year-old Ronald Jr., five-year-old Sarah, and three-year-old Kelly Maggie. This occurred at their home in Winfield, Kansas, around 9 a.m. on a Tuesday. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation confirmed these details.
According to investigators, Williams reached out to emergency services, admitted to the killings, and expressed intentions to take his own life.
A single gunshot was reported just as police arrived, and by approximately 11 a.m., all six individuals were found with gunshot wounds.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation stated, “Williams Sr. is believed to have killed five family members before calling 911 and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after police showed up.”
Locals were deeply disturbed by the incident.
One neighbor, Anne Stoffelan, expressed her shock, saying, “When I heard it was the whole family and the kids, I actually felt sick to my stomach. I was so sad and heartbroken. I can’t imagine what drove him to do that.”
Another neighbor recounted that Williams had uttered, “I’ll do it, I’ll do it, I’ll call the police,” but couldn’t grasp the full weight of his words. “How could he kill his own family? I just don’t understand,” she said.
Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong remarked during a news conference, “In my 20-plus years here, I can’t remember anything like this.” He noted that police had been alerted to Williams’ bizarre behavior, including confrontational and loud outbursts. “There were hints, but nothing that foretold today’s tragedy,” he added.
Williams, a registered sex offender known by several aliases, was convicted in September 1998 for attempted indecent assault involving a 15-year-old girl in Kansas City. His registration was set to expire in July 2028. Record also indicated charges against him for assault, attempted rape, robbery, and drug-related offenses.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, involving both the KBI and the Winfield Police Department.
