A tragic home invasion claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman in North Carolina, and her grieving father paid a heart-wrenching tribute to her.
Logan Federico, originally from Waxhaw, was recently visiting a friend in Columbia, South Carolina.
“You might be able to kill my body…but you can’t kill my love that my family and friends have shared with me.”
Federico was found deceased Saturday due to a gunshot wound to the chest, as reported by Richland County Coroner Nida Rutherford.
During a press conference on Monday, officials from the Columbia Police Department stated that Federico was “randomly murdered by a career criminal” during a break-in related to theft and credit fraud.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Alexander Dickie, allegedly broke into a home near where Federico was staying. He took various items, including firearms, credit cards, and vehicle keys.
Police noted that Dickie entered the home around 3 a.m. on Saturday, and he fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.
Afterward, he used the stolen credit cards for various purchases throughout Lexington County.
Law enforcement later found Dickie at a residence in Lexington County, where he reportedly set the home on fire.
He was apprehended by police after being extracted from the house through a window.
According to the Columbia Police Station, Dickie faces charges of murder, two counts of first-degree robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and theft.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Office also charged him with first-degree robbery and second-degree arson.
As for his bail status, Dickie has been denied bail.
The Columbia Police Station expressed their condolences, saying, “Logan was visiting a friend in Columbia, and her life was taken meaninglessly. We extend our deepest sympathies to Federico’s family and everyone who knew and loved her.”
Logan’s father, Stephen Federico, gave an emotional tribute during a press conference, identifying himself as her father and expressing his sorrow.
“I am Logan Haley Federico’s father—often known as ‘dad’ or her hero,” he shared, visibly shaken. “Sadly, I couldn’t be her hero that day.”
He further described his daughter as a strong and loving individual who worked hard to achieve her dream of becoming a teacher.
In a poignant message to her killer, he declared, “This is from her: You may be able to kill my body, but you cannot kill my spirit or the love shared with my family and friends,” he said, fighting back tears.
The emotional tribute from the father stands as a testament to his love for his daughter.
