Three people were electrocuted when a power line fell on their car in Portland, Oregon. The baby, who was being held by his father, somehow survived the freak accident.
Around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, emergency crews responded to a 911 call about a person burning on the street in northeast Portland.
A neighbor of the family who witnessed the tragic scene said the man was removing his 9-month-old baby from the family's SUV when a branch snapped during the ice storm. A fallen tree branch caused a power line to hit the vehicle.
KPTV According to the report, “The fallen line caused a small fire under or near the car, and the baby's mother yelled for the man to remove the child from the car and bring her to safety. When the father did so, the child was crushed by ice. “I slipped on top and fell,'' my foot hitting a live power line. The toddler's mother ran to her aid, but she also slipped and fell, hitting a power line. She touched a power line and smoke rose from it. ”
Portland Fire Rescue personnel said they found three bodies lying on the road about 300 feet from the vehicle. KTVL.
Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but all died.
Power lines hung on the hood of the full-size SUV, and there was a large branch at the top.
“The vehicle was energized, so when they touched the ground or touched the vehicle, it caused an electrical current that ultimately killed all three people,” said Rick Graves of Portland Fire and Rescue.
The baby's mother died in the freak accident, and the 21-year-old mother was six months pregnant at the time of her death. Her mother's 15-year-old brother, Taron Briggs, also died. Her mother's boyfriend (the infant's father) also died.

Neighbor Majia Washington rushed to save the baby, who was still in her father's arms.
