Man Arrested for School Shooting Threat on TikTok
A 20-year-old from Santa Rosa Beach, a well-off coastal area in Florida, was apprehended over the weekend after he allegedly made threatening comments regarding school shootings on TikTok. This incident triggered a rapid investigation involving both local authorities and the FBI.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office reported on Saturday that the FBI alerted them about potential online threats linked to a planned school shooting. The individual behind the TikTok account was livestreaming the remarks, which were flagged and subsequently removed due to their violent content.
Authorities identified the TikTok user as Ethan Charles Ladner, 20, and confirmed that the account belonged to him. During questioning, Ladner acknowledged posting the threats, mentioning that he intended to stir up a reaction online.
Following this, he was charged with electronic intimidation concerning a mass shooting—an offense classified as a felony under Florida law. Booking records from Walton County Jail indicate that he was taken into custody on Sunday.
The sheriff’s office made it clear that any threats of school violence, even if perceived as jokes, would be treated as serious until proven otherwise. They emphasized, “Let’s be clear: There is no such thing as a ‘joke’ when it comes to threats of violence against schools.” Such actions involve extensive law enforcement resources and can lead to severe legal repercussions.
His arrest comes at a time when schools in Walton County were welcoming students back from Thanksgiving break, raising additional concerns. The sheriff’s office assured that they are collaborating closely with school officials and federal partners to ensure the safety of students and staff.
They also encouraged parents to discuss the gravity of making threats online with their children, pointing out that such behavior can incur criminal charges and long-term consequences. “All threats will be treated as credible,” they stated, reiterating their commitment to serious and swift action against any threats, whether online or otherwise.
The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude to the community for their vigilance in reporting suspicious activity, reinforcing the importance of looking out for each other.
