Sacramento Man Released on Bail After Shooting Incident at ABC10

A man from Sacramento was recently released on bail following an incident in which he allegedly shot at the lobby of ABC10.

The FBI took 64-year-old Anibal Hernandez Santana into custody on charges related to obstructing broadcasting and communications. Authorities clarified that these charges stem from federal holdings, thus barring him from eligibility for release. The FBI confirmed Hernandez Santana’s arrest as part of an investigation linked to this incident.

Hernandez Santana is scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday afternoon, followed by another court appearance on Tuesday. Records from both the FBI and county jail indicate these details.

According to police reports, a drive-by shooting occurred at ABC10’s headquarters shortly after 1:30 PM on Friday, targeting the lobby windows three times while the building was occupied. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Motives behind the shooting remain unclear, but Hernandez Santana posted on social media, suggesting, “The rules do not apply if the election is stolen.”

Investigators have connected a vehicle to the shooting and proceeded to arrest Hernandez Santana at his address in the River Park area on Friday evening.

Initially booked in a significant jail in Sacramento County, Hernandez Santana faced charges related to using a deadly weapon against occupied buildings. His bail was set at $200,000, which he posted on Saturday before being taken into federal custody.

Local reports showed a strong police presence, including a SWAT team, in the surrounding area during the investigation.

A local tenant, identified as Angela, recounted having made eye contact with officers on the scene, while another neighbor, Destini Rich, mentioned regularly parking near the suspect. “I always look at him and go back and forth,” she remarked.

Emily Alves, another resident, shared her surprise about the situation, saying, “He was a good guy. But after hearing all of this, we said, ‘What happened?'”

As the investigation continues, police have not disclosed whether the weapon used in the incident has been recovered. They expressed gratitude to the FBI for their assistance.

Tegna, the owner of ABC10, assured that all staff members were safe and indicated that security measures had been heightened. “We can see that a shot was fired at the KXTV station today. While details are still limited, all employees are safe and unharmed,” they stated, emphasizing collaboration with law enforcement.

Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the shooting, describing it as an attack on democracy itself. “While no injuries have been reported, the act of violence against journalists must be condemned in the strongest terms,” his office shared on social media.

This shooting incident occurred following protests on Thursday concerning the suspension of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Though police stated that demonstrations were not ongoing at the time, they are investigating possible connections.

ABC confirmed that it has indefinitely suspended “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” following a statement made concerning the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. This decision reportedly led to pressure from affiliates and corporate responses, sparking additional protests in major cities.
