FBI profiler indicates blood spatter suggests one kidnapper in Nancy Guthrie case

Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Investigation Update

A former FBI profiler has noted that bloodstains found on the front porch of Nancy Guthrie’s home indicate a possible struggle before she was taken. According to Jim Clemente, a retired Supervisory Special Agent, the absence of blood inside the house suggests that Guthrie, 84, may have fought against her kidnapper right at the doorway. He speculated that she could have been struck in the face, causing her to fall and cough up blood in that vicinity.

Guthrie, who is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, a co-host on Today, vanished under suspicious circumstances on February 1, having lived in her Tucson home for decades. Surveillance footage captured a masked figure at her front door, while police have hinted that more than one person could have been involved in the kidnapping.

Additionally, Clemente pointed out that the evidence suggests she was likely carried away face-up, explaining the limited blood spatter observed. A concentrated area of blood was found near her doormat, and the layout of the property indicated a narrow path leading away from the home.

Clemente argued that if multiple individuals had been present, it would have been unlikely for Guthrie to have fallen to the ground as she did. The simple presence of blood droplets indicates she was indeed struggling, but the way they fell suggests she wasn’t upright at the time.

Experts studying the evidence suggest that DNA testing in this case may take several months, though some aspects could be expedited. Clemente said the spatter pattern shows she was likely hit before being taken, possibly with a weapon or fist. He emphasized that the blood’s characteristics reveal it was not simply an accident but strongly points toward foul play.

Dr. Michael Baden, a well-known forensic pathologist, has echoed these sentiments, noting that the nature and placement of the blood droplets support the theory of a kidnapping situation. Anyone with potential leads is encouraged to contact authorities, where a reward exceeding $1.2 million is available for substantial information related to the case.
