FBI video captures a masked individual near an Arizona residence

As the search for Nancy Guthrie progresses, recent surveillance footage released by the FBI is providing investigators with crucial insights regarding a person seen near the 84-year-old woman’s home in Arizona shortly before her disappearance, according to law enforcement professionals.

The new images and videos captured by Guthrie’s front door camera highlight several key details that could help authorities in identifying this individual linked to her case.

ski mask

An unusual ski mask worn by the suspect could hold important clues about who they are, especially if investigators can trace when and where it was bought.

Interestingly, it’s noted that Nancy Guthrie was at a friend’s house instead of attending church on the day she vanished.

“Authorities will likely try to determine the manufacturer of that mask and its place of purchase,” said criminal attorney Ted Williams. “Considering Tucson’s warm temperatures, it’s peculiar to see someone wearing such an item.” Additionally, examining the shape of the eyes and facial features visible beneath the mask may also provide helpful information, according to former FBI Special Agent Nicole Parker.

“You can’t alter the shape of someone’s eyes,” Parker pointed out. “While facial hair and eyebrows can change, certain factors—like mouth shape—remain fixed.”

Interestingly, only one local detective assigned to the Guthrie investigation has over two years of experience in homicide cases.

clothing

Williams also emphasized the importance of the suspect’s clothing, suggesting that details from both the pants and jacket may help police trace where these items originated.

If you analyze the person’s shirt and pants, authorities will definitely look into where those specific pieces might have been sold.

shoes

Further insights came from the bright shoes the suspect wore, which could help narrow down size, height, and build—details that are crucial for investigators.

“They’re going to analyze the person’s height, build, and even their shoe size based on what they see in the video compared to nearby identifiable objects,” Parker explained.

Williams noted that by evaluating the measurements of the suspect’s shoes against the tile flooring in Guthrie’s hallway, investigators can ascertain approximate foot size.

“They can measure the floor tiles he walked on to estimate his shoe size,” Williams stated.

gun and holster

The presence of a gun and holster worn by the individual also caught attention. Williams mentioned that law enforcement is likely investigating where these items were acquired as they build the profile.

backpack

Last, but not least, the backpack worn by the individual in the footage also deserves attention, with Parker noting the reflective elements on its shoulder straps.

“I want to know more about those reflectors,” she expressed. “Could it be camping gear? What brand is it? Where did it come from?”

Parker suggested that the type of backpack might offer clues into the suspect’s background and lifestyle. “If it were camping gear, investigators would pull customer orders from outdoor retailers in Tucson,” she added.

As of now, the FBI has not identified any suspects, nor have any arrests been made related to Nancy Guthrie’s case.

Former FBI agent Jason Pack believes that the release of the surveillance footage was a strategic step aimed at gathering public assistance in the investigation. “This video was meant to generate actionable leads that can help advance the inquiry,” he remarked.
