FBI Warns of Potential Drone Attacks from Iran

The FBI has alerted law enforcement in California about a possible threat from Iran, indicating that drone attacks could be launched in the state in the near future. This warning follows a U.S. strike against Iran in late February, executed in partnership with Israel.

On Wednesday, the FBI shared a bulletin with California police, suggesting that Iran might be planning a “surprise” drone strike from a vessel not yet identified off the West Coast of the United States.

According to the bulletin, “Iran allegedly intends to use unmanned aerial vehicles from unidentified vessels off the coast of the U.S. mainland to conduct surprise attacks against unspecified targets, particularly in California, if the United States conducts an attack against Iran.”

The warning noted, “There is no additional information regarding the timing, method, targets, or perpetrators of this alleged attack.”

However, the warning lacks specifics on how such drone-equipped ships could approach unnoticed or launch drones from offshore. To add to the concerns, there are unverified reports suggesting that leadership within Mexican cartels may have approved the use of explosive drones targeting U.S. law enforcement and military along the border.

In response to the alert, officials in both Los Angeles and San Francisco expressed that while the warning is “alarming,” it should not be interpreted as “imminent.” Currently, there are no details about the timing, methods, or specific vessels that could be involved in any attacks.

If such an attack were to occur on U.S. soil, it would mark a significant escalation and likely provoke a major retaliatory response from the United States. As of now, both the White House and the FBI have chosen not to comment on this warning.
