Gatorade Recall Due to Undeclared Food Coloring

Over 122,000 cases of Gatorade have been pulled from distribution in 37 states following a warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which cautioned that the beverages might contain undeclared food coloring that could pose risks to sensitive individuals.

This recall, categorized by the FDA as a Class II recall on October 2, impacts 122,021 cases of 28-ounce Gatorade bottles in flavors such as Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange, and Orange Zero.

A Class II recall is typically applied to products that are not compliant with regulations and could cause temporary or medically manageable health concerns, albeit with a low likelihood of severe health effects.

PepsiCo, which owns Gatorade, began the recall process on September 25 after discovering that the drinks contained unlisted food colorings, specifically Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6, as noted in the report.
