The FDA has updated recalls of tuna products sold at popular stores such as Walmart, Kroger, Costco and Trader Joe, which can be contaminated with rare bacteria that can cause paralysis or death.
Authorities labelled Tuna this week as recalls a Class II case. This means that the product “can cause temporary or medically reversible health effects.”
Tri-Union seafood first called for a drastic recall of tuna products in early February.
A failure in the lid can cause tuna products to leak or contaminate with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium of botulinum.
No diseases related to recalled tuna have been reported.
The recall includes tuna cans labeled Heb, Trader Joe, Genoa and Vancamp.
The affected products were sold in almost 30 states across the country, including New York and New Jersey, at Trader Joe, Costco, Walmart, Harris Teaser, Publix, Kroger, Heb, Safeway and independent stores.
Consumers can Visit the FDA website For a complete list of specific can codes, it is best when used with dates and UPC numbers.
Recalled tuna products can be returned to retailers for a full refund, or thrown in the trash bin, or consumers can contact Tri Union Seafood to exchange for search kits and coupons.
The FDA warned that consumers should not use tuna.
