The sentence was handed down Thursday by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton. Mr. Bolton discovered such a requirement as follows. House Bill 2492argues that adapting the Grand Canyon State’s stricter voting requirements is not discriminatory and that the state has a legitimate interest in preventing voter fraud.

“Considering the totality of the evidence, the court finds that Arizona’s interests in preventing noncitizens from voting and promoting public confidence in Arizona’s elections are not met when voters are asked to provide We conclude that this outweighs the possible limited burden.” [documentary proof of citizenship]” Bolton wrote.

The Justice Department, Democratic National Committee, and voting rights groups challenged the law. They argued that this would make it more difficult to register to vote and was racist.

But Bolton concluded that there was no evidence that the Legislature intended to suppress minority voter registration.

“[The laws do not] “It would impose an undue burden on the right to vote and violate the equal protection and due process guarantees of the U.S. Constitution,” she concluded.
