Texas Mother Praises Trump Administration for School Choice Support

A mother from Texas expressed her gratitude to the Trump administration for federal tax credit scholarships aimed at boosting school choice in the U.S. She shared her positive experiences regarding her children’s education.

Greta Alexander conveyed her appreciation during a Black History Month reception at the White House, where she spoke with Secretary Linda McMahon about the effects of school choice policies.

She mentioned, “I’m really grateful to the Trump administration. A lot of people don’t know what they’re doing for education.” Alexander emphasized the importance of access to information, stating, “Our children may be saved. We’ll have fewer prisoners. Education changes everything,” reflecting on her time living in Fort Worth, Texas.

As Alexander addressed the audience, she moved many to tears with the story of losing her son, Terrence, to drug addiction. Thankfully, she noted, her daughter, Miracle, benefitted from an ACE scholarship, allowing her to attend private school.

Alexander remarked on feeling “confined” by her zip code and how she stumbled upon the ACE scholarship, which turned out to be an ideal option for her family.

Organizations like ACE Scholarships are dedicated to helping parents find schooling options beyond their neighborhoods, with ACE having provided over 121,000 scholarships worth more than $395 million to low-income families since its inception 26 years ago.

Alexander also took the opportunity to thank Trump for signing the federal tax credit scholarship bill, which is set to launch in 2027. These scholarships enable taxpayers to receive credits for donations to nonprofits that facilitate private school scholarships—a change in tax law that, notably, does not expire.

Parents across the country, like Alexander, are increasingly seeking out-of-district schools, including charter and private options. Recent trends show a rise in homeschooling since the pandemic, amplifying the challenge for public schools in major U.S. cities to retain students.

Reflecting on her family’s journey, Alexander compared Miracle’s experience in a private school to her other sons’ public school education. She revealed the hurdles she faced as a young mother lacking guidance and communication, emphasizing how that impacted her life choices.

Miracle is now thriving and has aspirations of becoming a nurse anesthetist. Alexander shared that her daughter has been on the ACE scholarship for seven years, making it feasible for their family to manage tuition costs.

Norton Rainey, CEO of ACE Scholarships, highlighted the importance of school choice, stating, “When families have more opportunities to choose their schools, children thrive in and out of the classroom.” He acknowledged the positive outcomes for children like Miracle, who benefit immensely from a quality learning environment.
