The federal government has arrested the suspected mastermind behind a massive point shaving scandal worth millions of dollars of illegal profits, Federal court documents reveal.
In the midst of a massive, continuous investigation that began with exiled NBA traveler John Tay Porter, a federal agent Shane Hennen has been identified as suspected by an architectSports Illustrated was first reported.
Officials say Hennen has orchestrated the biggest point shaving scandal in American history, which may include at least nine college matches over the past two years with Heatguard Terry Rosier.
Hennen has not yet been charged as he is negotiating a plea deal that can shed even more light on a bomb betting scheme that undermines the integrity of both the university and professional games.
He will ultimately be charged with conspiracy to wire fraud and money laundering, documents say.
Hennen was arrested at Las Vegas airport in January, where he said he was preparing to fly from Vegas to Columbia for “dental work.”
The Justice Department further alleges that Hennen had five co-conspirators in the scheme, which included Porter.
Porter has been stolen from the NBA after being found guilty of the game rigging scandal.
“The evidence of his guilt is overwhelming,” the US lawyer's office adds that the evidence includes “witnesses, phone records, financial records, betting records.”
Rozier is still investigating, even as he peers into the extraordinary gambling activities, and his case is tied to Porter's case.
However, the NBA said it investigated the issue and failed to find a violation.
Rozier has not been charged with a crime.
“In March 2023, the NBA was warned of unusual betting activities related to Terry Rosier's performance in the game between Charlotte and New Orleans,” said NBA spokesman Mike Bass. .
“The league conducted an investigation and found no violations of the NBA rules. We are currently aware of the investigation by the US Lawyers' Office in the Eastern District of New York related to this issue and cooperated with the investigation. It's there.”
Investigators also flagged extraordinary bets in games involving at least five university teams last season.
Fresno recently stopped two players in an NCAA and gambling school investigation, but it is unclear whether that is related to the case.
