Feelings from Yankees' 2024 World Series defeat remain as Dodgers return to the Bronx

Dodgers Return to Bronx, Reminders of Last Season’s Pain

The lingering sense of disappointment is hard to shake off. Sure, it might have lessened a bit, but it’s still there lingering in the background.

The Dodgers are back in the Bronx this weekend for the first time since they secured the 2024 World Series title at this very stadium—a stark reminder of the missed opportunities.

“The hurt of competing fiercely until the end, only to fall short—that’s definitely something that leaves a mark,” manager Aaron Boone shared before Saturday’s scheduled game, which ended up being rained out. Instead, they will have a split doubleheader on Sunday. “You want to find yourself in a World Series position and give it your all. We had that shot and just couldn’t get it. So, yes, there’s some pain and disappointment that resonates, but that’s just part of baseball life.”

Even though the World Series wrapped up in just five games, it still felt tightly contested. The Yankees took the lead in both Games 1 and 5, keeping everything rather intense.

In the decisive game, the Yankees jumped out to a 5-0 advantage, but errors and missed plays allowed the Dodgers to come back and claim their first championship since 2009, when the Yankees were the victors.

Despite contending with numerous significant injuries to key players like Edwin Diaz, Tyler Glasnow, Will Smith, and Blake Snell, the Dodgers entered this series sporting the best record in baseball.

They’re still considered the frontrunners—not only to reach the World Series again but also to capture the title for a third consecutive year.

On the flip side, the Yankees are dealing with some significant injuries as well, with Aaron Judge’s fractured right rib being the most concerning.

This matchup could, in fact, serve as a preview of the World Series.

“Every encounter we have with the Dodgers feels significant, whether it’s here or on a national stage,” Boone remarked. “These series add a little extra weight. This is one of those that stands out in a grueling 162-game season.”
