2026 World Baseball Classic Preparations Are Underway

The 2026 World Baseball Classic is slated to kick off on March 5 in Miami and wrap up on March 17.

This event carries significant international prestige and features a large roster of players. An MLB star, hailing from the Dominican Republic, confidently predicts his country’s victory, directing some strong words toward the reigning champions, Japan.

Fernando Tatis Jr., the standout player from the Padres, is set to make his WBC debut alongside his father, Fernando Tatis Sr., in just a few weeks.

Tatis Sr. serves as the hitting coach for the team, under the leadership of head coach Albert Pujols. In his initial chat with reporters on Tuesday, Tatis Jr. expressed his longstanding dream of representing his nation in the WBC. He’ll be playing for glory alongside fellow Caribbean stars like Juan Soto and Manny Machado.

“It’s something you dream about as a kid. I’ve always wanted to do it. This is the perfect time, and I’m really glad it’s happening. It promises to be a fantastic experience,” he shared.

When questioned about facing a formidable Japanese team featuring Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and his Padres teammate Hiroki Matsui, his confidence remained unshaken.

“They’re definitely tough, but I believe we can beat them,” Tatis Jr. stated.

If there’s one thing that stands out, it’s the Dominican team’s confidence. They seem ready to not only play for pride but to carve a memorable chapter in baseball history, especially for Tatis Jr. and his father. The heartbeat of Dominican baseball is rich with tradition and they are aiming for nothing less than glory.

“There’s a lot of great competition out there, and I’m looking forward to taking on that competition and coming out on top,” he added.
