Fetterman hails Rubio as ‘strong choice’ for secretary of state, says he will vote to confirm him

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) said Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who President-elect Donald Trump is expected to select as secretary of state, is a “strong choice” for the cabinet-level role. I called it. .

If Rubio takes office next year, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will be able to appoint a temporary replacement to fill the vacant U.S. Senate seat until a special election for the Senate seat is held.

Rep. Greg Steube, R-Florida, called Rubio “a great choice.”

“Senator Rubio has a proven track record of promoting freedom, defending America's interests on the world stage, and standing firm against the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party,” Steube said in a tweet. “His leadership will be invaluable as we promote this overseas.”

“President Trump has made a truly historic and remarkable choice to elect Sen. Marco Rubio to be our Secretary of State,” Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Florida) said in a statement.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Sen. John Thune (R.S.D.) are also vying for the role.

Senate Republicans are scheduled to vote Wednesday.
