Chinese director Yi Zhou, 34, has made serious allegations against Marvel star Jeremy Renner, claiming he engaged in misconduct and domestic violence, even threatening to involve immigration authorities during a heated argument.
Zhou, who collaborated with Renner on two projects, stirred speculation about their relationship when she shared private moments on Instagram. But it seemed like their connection was far from stable.
The filmmaker accused Renner of sending her “unwanted” and “pornographic” messages before they officially started dating, as reported.
Despite this rocky introduction, Zhou mentioned that they began their relationship after Renner appeared in her films earlier this year.
However, she describes an incident where, while staying at her home in Reno, Nevada, a drunken Renner became enraged, causing her to fear for her safety. She claims she felt so threatened that she barricaded herself in a bedroom and reached out to a friend for help.
Text messages reportedly show Zhou expressing her fears, stating that Renner was “violent” and made her feel unsafe.
Zhou further alleged that Renner screamed for hours and drank an entire bottle of wine during this confrontation. In one message, he purportedly threatened to call immigration authorities after accusing her of sending unsolicited sexual images.
She recounted, “When I confronted him about his past behavior and asked for respect as a woman and filmmaker, he shocked me by threatening to contact Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” according to reports.
Renner, who has faced long-standing speculation regarding his sexual orientation, was briefly married to Canadian model Sonni Pacheco in 2014. Their marriage lasted only ten months, after which Pacheco filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
