Finneas O’Connell Criticizes Conservative Reactions to Shooting Incident
Finneas O’Connell, a Grammy-winning producer and brother of Billie Eilish, has expressed strong disapproval of conservatives on social media regarding their reactions to the recent shooting death of Alex Preti by federal agents. In a video shared with his nearly five million Instagram followers, O’Connell told critics to “shut up” multiple times.
This controversy followed the shooting of 37-year-old Preti by immigration agents in Minneapolis, marking the second deadly incident involving federal officers this month. O’Connell’s remarks came amidst widespread conversation about the circumstances leading to Preti’s death.
Critique of Conservative Stances
In a passionate address, O’Connell specifically targeted conservatives who tend to accept school shootings as a necessary sacrifice for Second Amendment rights, but then cite legally owned firearms to rationalize Preti’s fatal encounter with agents. He stated, “Conservative arguments that excuse school shootings always seem to reduce to, ‘We must protect the Second Amendment, which means people should carry weapons.'”
O’Connell continued, “Sure, sometimes kids lose their lives, and somehow that’s acceptable. It’s a baffling stance. The justifications I’ve heard for Alex Preti’s death often revolve around the fact that he had a gun. But come on—this narrative is flawed and hypocritical. You’ve been saying for years now that children have to die to maintain these rights.”
“Preti was on the ground being restrained; he hadn’t even brandished his weapon. They shot and killed him. So, please, just stop!” he exclaimed.
Investigation Underway
The Department of Homeland Security is currently looking into whether the Border Patrol agents involved mistakenly believed they were under fire. Early reports suggest that Preti’s firearm may have accidentally discharged when agents took it from him, prompting a panic response from law enforcement.
O’Connell emphasized his belief that conservative rhetoric has long argued that such deaths are unavoidable costs of upholding Second Amendment rights, reiterating that “It seems like you think this has to happen—children must die for us to exercise this right.” His comments reflect a growing frustration with how gun rights are defended in light of tragic incidents.
Meanwhile, Billie Eilish shared a nine-word message aimed at fellow celebrities, urging them to break their silence amidst the unrest in Minnesota, highlighting her own commitment to speaking out against issues like immigration enforcement. A spokesperson for Finneas O’Connell was unavailable for comment at the time.
