First Lady Melania Trump Addresses UN on Child Safety and Technology
During her speech at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, First Lady Melania Trump highlighted the urgent need to protect children as technology advances rapidly. She introduced a new initiative called “Together, Farm the Future,” which aims to create a global coalition focused on enhancing children’s happiness in the digital age through education and innovation.
Reflecting on her own childhood experiences, Trump urged leaders to reconsider the value of imagination, suggesting that what might seem trivial can actually lay the groundwork for future innovations. “Like kids, we all played marble, flew paper planes, ran with strings in hand,” she reminisced. She emphasized how these simple activities could inspire greatness in technology, transforming marbles into microchips and paper planes into drones.
Appreciating the power of technology, Trump noted its role in saving lives and connecting people. However, she asserted that safety must take precedence: “Technology is evolving at a pace that surpasses the law, so we need to identify simple solutions to protect children’s ingenuity.”
The mission of the coalition she announced is to ensure that all children benefit from these advancements. Trump called on leaders from various countries to spearhead programs aimed at this goal, with their first meeting scheduled at the White House early in 2026.
According to a news release related to the initiative, the coalition will collaborate with the private sector to improve access to innovative educational technologies like AI, robotics, and blockchain, while sharing insights on the potential risks and rewards associated with these tools.
Trump’s call to action centered on nurturing the future: “It’s the moment. Join me to nurture the future. Work with me to help my children achieve new heights across our planet.” This initiative builds on her ongoing commitment to child health, safety, and opportunity, moving these issues into a broader global context.
Moreover, she reiterated the importance of safety, asserting, “There’s nothing before safety. We must protect a healthy environment for our children and safeguard their personal freedom and motivation.”
The White House had not provided immediate comments in response to inquiries about the initiative.
