Voters question Biden’s economy because of high food prices and interest rates: ‘We still can’t afford things’

A recent Axios Vibes survey on inflation found that many Americans are worried and angry about high prices at grocery stores. Although inflation has fallen significantly from its record high in 2022, prices are still significantly higher than they were before 2020. In December 2019, Americans had to spend about $125.51 on groceries that previously cost $100, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Maher pointed to the contrast between how Americans feel about inflation and the economic reality.

“There’s emotion and then there’s numbers,” he continued, arguing that “the numbers have dropped significantly over the last six months.” He said the first problem was the coronavirus, in which the government “gave out $6 trillion so everyone could hide under their beds from the eternal flu. It was never going to end well.” He said it was an “inevitable” result of the stimulus plan.

He added that it was a “massive overreaction” that led to inflation.

“The big picture is that every other country in the world [is] Now the situation is even worse, and somehow this country is just riding high,” he said.

“Immigration. There’s a bit of a rush. It doesn’t seem to affect anything!” Maher joked.

“Will it eventually burst? Will there be a straw left behind? I would say ‘yes’,” Michaels said.

“That’s true,” Maher agreed.
