Authorities have reported a disturbing incident involving a Florida man accused of being inappropriate with a 7-year-old girl. Daniel Dangelo, 53, was arrested after the girl allegedly found him lying on top of her while she was asleep in her home in Port Charlotte.
According to a police report from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, the child awoke to discover Dangelo, who is a registered sex offender, in a compromising position. The incident occurred late Sunday night. The girl’s father, unaware of Dangelo’s background, walked into the room around 11 PM and was understandably alarmed by what he saw.
The father documented the situation by taking two photos: one showing Dangelo in bed with the girl and another of him leaving the room shirtless, as detailed in court records. Police noted that Dangelo had been drinking heavily throughout the day.
It appears Dangelo had moved into the home earlier in the month but failed to inform authorities of his change of address, as required by law. He has since claimed that the allegations are fabricated, despite evidence including an explicit photo and items found in the girl’s bed.
The legal requirements in Florida state that sex offenders must register their new address within 48 hours. Dangelo’s history has raised concerns, with previous issues reported by former roommates. One ex-roommate, Robin Hart, expressed fear over Dangelo’s behavior, recalling disturbances caused by him.
Hart recounted, “I kept saying, ‘Walk away, leave me alone.'” The landlord also noted that Dangelo was often inebriated, describing his state as being so drunk he was barely aware of his actions.
Dangelo faces multiple charges, including second-degree indecency and failure to register as a sex offender. He remains in custody at the Charlotte County Jail in Punta Gorda.
