Tragic Incident in Florida Family
A Florida father took a shocking and tragic turn by stabbing his ex-wife, a real estate agent, along with their two young daughters before ending his own life.
Ryan Charles Whiten, aged 42, was responsible for the deaths of his estranged ex, Melanie Hyer, and their daughters, Savannah, 11, and Sienna, 8. All four were discovered deceased at Hyer’s home in a gated community in Doral, Florida, as confirmed by Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detectives.
“The investigation shows that Mr. Whiten committed these dreadful acts before taking his own life,” officials stated.
While authorities have not disclosed how long the bodies remained in the home or the motive behind the actions, the investigation is still ongoing.
The scene was uncovered on Tuesday night during a welfare check initiated by police. Sadly, all family members succumbed to stab wounds.
Hyer and Whiten had split several years prior and were co-parenting their daughters at the time of this tragic event.
Both had remarried since their breakup. Hyer’s divorce had only just been finalized in March. Court records reveal the complicated history between Whiten and Hyer, which had been marred by a long-standing conflict regarding their daughter, despite their attempts to co-parent.
Whiten’s ex-wife, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed her shock over the incident, noting that she had feared Hyer might take their daughters from him. “He was always very kind to his daughters and loved them deeply. I really have no idea what led to this,” she said.
Hyer, 46, originally from Manhasset, New York, was a probate real estate agent specializing in luxury properties in South Florida. She had been featured as an expert in various media outlets throughout her career.
Doral Mayor Christy Fraga described Hyer as a “ray of sunshine” who was deeply involved in her children’s lives, adding in an Instagram post that the news profoundly affected her.
The two girls attended Downtown Doral Elementary School and were active members of the field hockey team. “They significantly contributed to our community and will be remembered for their kindness and friendship,” the team stated in an Instagram post. “We will miss them dearly. May they rest in peace.”
A Catholic Mass will be held on Friday night in memory of Hyer and her daughters, with organizers inviting the public to pray for comfort and strength for their families and loved ones.
