Florida Gov Ron DeSantis calls Biden border deal ‘a farce,’ says it will worsen migrant crisis

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Saturday criticized the Senate border deal supported by President Biden as a “travesty” in a video.

The president acknowledged Friday that he would “close our borders” if Congress passes a new bipartisan immigration deal. Biden claims he no longer has such authority.

“We all know that for too long, our border has been broken,” Biden said in a press release. “It’s long past time to fix that.”

“What has been negotiated so far, if passed into law, would be the toughest and fairest reform to secure our nation’s borders to date,” he added. “It would give me, as president, new emergency powers to close the border in the event of border congestion. If given that power, I would exercise it the same day I signed the bill into law. ”

The former Republican 2024 presidential candidate accused Biden of inaction in a video posted to X.

“This border deal is a travesty,” DeSantis insisted. “Joe Biden already has the power to close the border. He can declare a national emergency. He can stop the cold wave of invasion if he wants to. He doesn’t want to do that. ”

“This so-called agreement is intended to give him the tools to actually close the border. The reality is that we are giving the green light to up to 5,000 illegal immigrants every day,” he added. “That’s more than 1.8 million cases a year, and they’re codifying this into law because they think this is the appropriate number of illegal immigration.”

DeSantis argued that the “appropriate” number of illegal immigrants is actually zero.

“Our policies should reflect that we don’t want people to come to this country illegally,” DeSantis said. “People who entered this country illegally should not be given benefits or work permits.”

“So Biden has the authority. He doesn’t have the will. He doesn’t have the political philosophy of actually wanting to solve problems,” he continued.
