Florida grandfather, 71, fatally shot by neighbor during noise dispute; suspected gunman claims self-defense

A 71-year-old Florida man was shot and killed by his neighbor during an argument on Thanksgiving Day, the Broward Sheriff's Office announced.

Freleyon McLean, 71, went downstairs to talk to his Lauderdale Lakes neighbor and left a note complaining that his music was too loud on holidays, McLean's widow, Rose, told WTVJ. .

“When I heard it, I ran to the door,” she said of the gunshots. “When I looked outside, my husband was lying there covered in blood.”

“My husband didn't have any weapons. He didn't even have a knife,” Rose told police, claiming the suspect threatened her after shooting her husband.

Rose said she had planned to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends that day, but something unexpected happened that day.

“He had no remorse,” she told WSVN of the shooter. “He just stood there looking at me with the gun in his hand as well. And I went up to him and said, 'Why did you shoot my husband? Why?' 'And he said if I didn't shut up, he'd shoot me too. ”

McLean's pastor was shocked by the shooting.
