Florida man asks for ride from stranger at Walmart parking lot and stabs him with box cutter before stealing car, cops say

Florida State Police announced the arrest of a suspect. stab A man holds a box cutter knife after being picked up from a Walmart parking lot in Miami-Dade County.

Investigators say Nelson Angel Bellon approached a 56-year-old man Saturday night and asked him for a ride. The man agreed, and Veron told him where he wanted to go.

Along the way, Bellon allegedly told the man to get out of the car, then pulled out a box cutter knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the torso.

Witnesses said they heard screaming and saw men struggling after the car stopped at the intersection of Southwest 93rd Street and Fourth Lane, according to WPLG-TV. The victim reportedly collapsed after getting out of the car.

Several witnesses went to help the victim while the assailant drove away in the stolen car.

Cellphone video obtained by WPLG showed first responders from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arriving to treat the victim. One video reportedly also showed the attacker calmly driving away.

The victim was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in serious but stable condition.

According to the police, car was recovered around 2 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Southwest 8th Avenue. Bellon was immediately taken into custody, and police said he confessed during an interrogation at MDPD’s Northside Station. He was charged with attempted murder and armed carjacking.

Mr. Bellon was being held at the Miami-Dade County Pretrial Detention Center as of Tuesday.

Police said the victim was not the rideshare driver.
