Floridian Sailor Accused of Attempted Murder of Wife During Fishing Trip
A shocking incident unfolded during a fishing trip in Florida, where a sailor allegedly assaulted his wife and attempted to dispose of her body in the sea. The couple was reportedly 33 miles off the coast of Bean Point when the altercation escalated after a fishing line snapped.
Douglas Naah, 60, engaged in a violent confrontation with his wife, whom he had been married to for three years. Witnesses have described him as appearing angry and aggressive, particularly after they were pushed out from a private dock in Holmes Beach, according to reports from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
The couple’s fishing line reportedly broke while Naah was being removed from a “beanbag chair” on their 30-foot boat. In an effort to escape his fury, the victim jumped overboard, clinging to ropes connected to a container and using pool noodles for flotation.
Documents indicate that Naah briefly left the area, but alarmingly returned when he spotted another boat in the distance. When his wife attempted to reboard, Naah violently struck her multiple times, continuing the assault as she fell to the deck.
In a desperate attempt to survive, she pretended to be dead to avoid further wrath, but Naah’s attack persisted. He allegedly dragged her by her hair and attempted to suffocate her in the water, threatening her with phrases like, “I’m going to kill you.”
Despite his efforts to harm her, the woman fought back and managed to grab onto a ladder attached to the boat. When Naah stopped unexpectedly, she seized the chance to climb back on board. However, he noticed her and continued to assault her.
During a subsequent struggle, she again clung to the boat. This time, she used a rope to secure herself near the back. After docking, she bravely managed to escape and sought help at the nearby Holmes Beach Police Station.
Upon receiving treatment at Blake Hospital, she was found to have suffered multiple injuries, including a swollen eye and broken bones.
Naeher was arrested the following day and charged with attempted first-degree murder, highlighting the severity of the incident.
