Florida Man Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Foster Children

A man from Florida has been taken into custody after reportedly boasting about the sexual abuse of his young adopted children. He and his husband have fostered a total of 23 boys, according to police.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri revealed that 51-year-old John David Ballard was arrested following a cyber tip received by authorities on May 7.

In a press briefing, Gualtieri stated, “According to his own statements, he was using these children for sexual pleasure.” Ballard allegedly confessed to abusing a 7-year-old boy in his care via the messaging application Kick.

The sheriff described the messages as explicit and “terrible,” emphasizing their graphic nature.

Authorities assert that when the police executed a search warrant on Ballard’s cellphone in June, he disclosed that he was “into some really weird stuff.” They found a video involving bestiality among other disturbing material.

During the investigation, dozens of graphic child pornography images were reportedly uncovered, including those of a two-month-old victim.

The case expanded as investigators learned that Ballard and his husband, Bradley Borske, were heavily involved in the foster care system. They fostered 23 boys between 2017 and 2023 and adopted five children between 2015 and 2023.

All the boys were reportedly between the ages of 4 and 12 at the time they were in the couple’s care. Gualtieri shared that officers have interviewed many of these boys, now young men, and that some have made concerning statements related to the ongoing investigation.

Some boys indicated that Ballard would punish them by forcing them to undress and stand in front of a window, while others claimed to have witnessed him while bathing or showering.

Interestingly, Ballard and Borske authored a book titled “The Adoption Diary.” On June 17, Ballard was apprehended, facing 20 counts of possession of child pornography and five counts related to sexual conduct with animals.

As of now, Borske has not been arrested, and authorities are deliberating the fate of the four adopted children still residing in their home.

“This is a really, really difficult case because it involves a betrayal of the trust that the child welfare system places in foster and adoptive parents,” Gualtieri stated. “One of the most troubling aspects of this situation is the deception Ballard practiced by presenting himself as a model foster parent.”
