Florida suspect beaten by truck owner after attempted carjacking: ‘Play stupid games…win stupid prizes’

A Florida man was assaulted after trying to break into a truck and was taken to the hospital with injuries he sustained after being “slapped in the buttocks” by a 66-year-old man, police said.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, a 66-year-old man called 911 early Thursday morning to report noises coming from outside his home. He went outside to check and found 29-year-old Blake Robinson trying to break into his truck, authorities said.

The 66-year-old man returned to his home to retrieve his cell phone to call police, but did not find it. When he returned outside to confront Robinson, the suspect reportedly assaulted the victim by punching him in the head, throwing him to the ground and kicking him in the head.

The older man managed to defend himself and punch the suspect, while the younger intruder retreated and escaped, allowing him to contact police.

When officers arrived on scene, Robinson was taken into custody as he appeared to be struggling to get up after being punched by the 66-year-old man. Robinson was taken to hospital for treatment and then handed over to police.

The victim only required brief medical treatment and did not suffer any serious injuries.

Robinson was charged with felony assault on a person over 65 years old and attempted vehicle theft and was booked into the Brevard County Jail on $30,000 bail.

“Robinson was fortunate to be in Brevard County and was chauffeured to a local medical facility where he was examined for injuries and later won several awards for his foolish behavior, including arriving at his less than luxurious lodgings at Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge,” Sheriff Wayne Ivey wrote on Facebook. “At the lodge, he was given a freshly laundered two-piece outfit to make him comfortable and then shown to his open floor sleeping quarters.”

“The suspect was charged with a more serious offense for allegedly assaulting an individual over the age of 65 and ultimately slapping the elderly individual on the buttocks,” the sheriff said.

Ivey added, “We hope you enjoy your stay at our lodge. As we say in Brevard County, ‘Try it and discover it!!'”
